Indianapolis African American Quality Of Life Initiative

Scope of Work

Program: Indianapolis African American Quality Of Life Initiative

Category: Community Programs

The Indianapolis Urban League (IUL) in partnership with the African American Coalition of Indianapolis (AACI) and funded through a $100 million grant from the Lilly Endowment, set out to mobilize African American resources, while building collaborations and partnerships to elevate the quality of life of African Americans in Indianapolis/Marion County. Engaging Solutions led the Community Opportunity Assessment portion of the project. Using Community Ambassadors, surveys, one-on-one meetings, community leader networking, and public meetings we were able to reach approximately 1,700 residents and 16 community organizations. Information gathered in these engagements establish priorities for the quality-of-life pillars, which showed systemic inequalities in education, employment, health and wellness, housing, leadership, and civic engagement. The data gathered during this first portion of the initiative will direct how grant funds are allocated moving forward.
